Who are we?

More generally known as "The Good Neighbours", this club is a long established village institution which dates from 1971.

Membership is open to anyone – irrespective of race or religion – who resides or has resided in the district and has retired because of age or illness. However, in recent years friends from neighbouring villages have joined us and have been made most welcome by our members.

The purpose of the Club is to provide the opportunity for the members to meet socially and to arrange a social programme of entertainments and outings as and when appropriate. Members are encouraged to put forwards ideas for future meetings and programmes and if they wish, to join the club committee.

Throughout the year meetings are held in Pattishall Parish Hall, in the summer these are interspersed with outings and in December we go out for a Christmas Lunch. As a matter of habit, the meetings are always held in the afternoon of the second Thursday of each month, starting at 1.45pm, although the timings for the outings obviously depend on the destination. Details of meetings and outings are posted on the village notice boards and are always included in the diary pages of Around Pattishall and the Parish website.

Talks and outings are of a varied nature. Over the past few years, outings have included Bressingham, Barnsdale, The Black Country Living Museum, London, Windsor with a trip on the river Thames, Cromer, Portsmouth, Southsea, Oxford and the Thames.

Speakers at our meetings have ranged from serious offerings by the Police and Fire Services to entertaining talks on a whole variety of subjects as well as an occasional musical entertainment. We always finish with time for a friendly chat, a cup of tea and cakes made by our members.

The Club is self-supporting being funded by the members subscriptions, raffles and an annual bring and buy afternoon.

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for ? I sincerely hope it is, and if so, a warm welcome awaits you. Just come along to a meeting or give the Chairman, Alan White a ring on 01327 830892.
